On display until 23 July, 2015 at: Cloud Art & Coffee, Prinsengracht 276 HS, 1016HJ Amsterdam
Last night was opening night for Tattoo Love, a new collection of artwork inspired by tattooing, on display at Cloud Art & Coffee in Amsterdam. The hot weather drove the crowd out onto the narrow street where we dodged bicycles, drank many bottles of Warsteiner beer and got to hear some of the stories behind the artwork on display.
The collection was curated by Hollywood Mark, proprietor and tattooer at Hollywood Mark Tattoo, just nearby on the Elandsgracht. Some of his own work hung on the walls inside, including a few skateboards he painted and carved into by hand.
The skateboards were traded by Jackson Hanna for a pair of gray laceless Chuck Taylors that Mark had gotten from skateboarder Mark Gonzales. “Love” was Jackson’s first skateboard, and maybe the one he loved most — he’d had it since he was 13 years old and first learned to do tricks on it. Mark told us that in creating his skateboard art, it makes a difference where he gets the board. “It’s a different energy when someone else rode it, handled it, kept it in their room.”
The other artists were all local Amsterdam tattooers, including some from Mark’s own shop.
Here are some more pics from the show:
Go see the collection yourself before it closes (23 July, 2015) at Cloud Art & Coffee in the Jordaan, open Monday – Friday 8am – 6pm, Saturdays 9am – 5pm and Sundays 10am – 5pm.
